BOYS U12 & U14 BEESTON MINIS
The boys’ tournaments were held on Sunday June 10th as part of the Beeston Centenary Weekend.
In the morning the U12 tournament was reduced to 5 teams following last minute withdrawals. Beeston played well but after losing narrowly to the eventual winners Lichfield 0-1 and then to Peterbro 1-2 they struggled in their last matches losing 0-4 to Sheffield and West Bridgford. The team were fairly young and although they played some lovely hockey were unable to convert this into goals. However the tournament enabled coach Martin Keeling to assess some of the new players and to give them experience at playing in different positions.
Beeston U12s: Jordan Homer, Will Taylor, Joe Saleh, Dan Gleeson, Dominic Coyne, James Shires, Ollie Atkin, Josh Wainwright and Alex Butler.
In the afternoon 7 teams competed for the U14 title. Beeston started well and just got better and better, playing fast exciting attacking hockey. They beat Sheffield 4-0, Lichfield 6-0, Wolverhampton 7-0, Bridgnorth 6-2 and West Bridgford 7-0. Only peterborough were able to hold them to a 1-1 thanks to a magnificent effort from their 2 divisional players and their goal keeper! Beeston won the tournament by 4 clear points scoring 31 goals and conceding only 3; seven different players scored with George Osborne scoring 12 and Josh Greaves 8.
Beeston U14s: Jon Allcock, Charlie Willars, Jon Purkiss, George Osborne, Greg Nolan, Josh Greaves, Jack Simkins, Rory Macildowie and Matt Shuttleworth.
