BEESTON HOCKEY CLUB
COLTS
Mini Hockey  2007
Beeston HC hosted these championships on Sunday January 21st (Boys) and Sunday February 11th (Girls). The success of the championships was once again due to the effort put in by the whole club; thanks to juniors Hannah Price, Joe Robinson, Bex Brown, Lucy Stephenson, Emily Hancock who helped with the umpiring and to the club members and parents who helped with the organisation and umpiring. Special thanks to Adam Stephenson who marshalled the gate on both days, making sure that the teams were in the right place at the right time.
Beeston fielded two teams in both the U11 and U13 age groups in the boys and girls championships. This gave the opportunity for 80 kids to play in a hockey tournament.

Boys U11s
The younger team was coached by Kris Elston and played well in the group matches beating St Peters Primary 1-0, with a goal scored by Gareth Griffiths, drawing with Newark HC and only losing to West Bridgford HC. They lost out on a semi final place on goal difference only to Newark.
The older team, coached by Mary Nevill and Martin Keeling, played below their recent form and never showed the confidence they had shown in the NoDe League. They started strongly with a 3-0 win over Ashfield HC but after a 0-0 draw with Lowes Wong Primary, when they were unable to convert possession into goals, they lost to Grosvenor School 0-4. This meant they too missed a semi final on goal difference. Lowes Wong and Grosvenor went on to contest the final which Grosvenor won 1-0.
Beeston KE = Henry Macildowie, Maaz Choudry, Omar Farraj, Ed Sidebottom, Henry Fletcher Wilson, Yiannos Kozakis, Gareth Griffiths, Tom Nevill, Jeremy Caglayan and Ben Sharples.
Beeston MK = Arran Abbiss, Ollie Atkin, Ben Trembling, James Shires, Ben Nevill, Tom Gorman, Rowan Elston, Josh Leadbetter, Cellan Griffiths and Harry Webster Bourke.

Boys U13s
The development team were coached by Pete Shuttleworth and captained by Josh Robinson. The team played well but were unable to score losing all their matches narrowly 0-1 to Grosvenor School, Worksop HC and Ashfield HC. The older Beeston team, coached by Martin Keeling, just got better and better throughout the tournament. They scored maximum points in the group matches beating Newark HC 5-0, South Nottm HC 1-0, Ranby House School 3-0 and West Bridgford HC 2-0.  Impressively 7 different players scored in these matches with Sarpreet particularly lethal at penalty corners! In the semi final they beat Ashfield HC 3-0 to qualify for a rematch against South Nottm HC in the final. This time Beeston were full of confidence scoring 4 times with a hat trick from James Powell, they also conceded their only goal. As champions Beeston MK go on to represent Nottinghamshire at the Midlands Championships on April 22nd.

Midlands Minis Championships 2006/07:  Beeston U13 Boys won their first group match 2-0 v Bridgnorth but after conceding a goal late in the game against Trent went on to lose last match against Cannock. Trent and Cannock went through to the semis which they duly won and so met again in the final. Unfortunately for Trent the game this time ended in a draw and they lost the resulting penalty stroke competition. Beeston meanwhile went on to win the 5/6th play off. Several Beeston players were in the Trent team so when they are reunited in the club competitions they will be a formidable team. Several Beeston girls were playing in the Trent girls U13 team and they too lost in the final this time to Lichfield.
Beeston= Rhys Stevenson, Jack Simkins, James Powell, Rob Procter, Sarbpreet Singh Hundal, Jonathan Rowles, Rob Taylor, Travis Merryweather, Tom Fletcher Wilson and Alex Smith. Coach = Alan Postlethwaite.

Girls U11s
The younger team, coached by Hannah Price, finished 3rd in their group by beating Newark HC (Badgers) 1-0 before losing to Ranby House School and Newark HC (Otters) who went onto contest the final. There were strong performances by captain Hayley Chaplin, goalkeeper Brooke Butler and youngster Paige Gillott the “baby” of the team.
The older team, coached by Helena Honarmand and Martin Keeling, scored maximum points in their group matches with impressive wins over St Peters Primary 3-0, NGHS 6-0 and Nottm Highfields HC 1-0. In the semi final despite lots of possession they failed to score against Ranby House and had to endure another penalty stroke competition. Unfortunately for the 3rd year running Beeston lost to the eventual winners on strokes, this time in the semi finals!
