England Hockey Indoor Championships 2006/07 – Boys National Finals
Beeston were the only hockey club to qualify for the National Finals in both age groups.
The U18s were without Ben Arnold(injured) and John Procter(skiing!) for the finals but were able to bring in Charlie Brooke and guest player Richard Gear Evans. The Bees were soundly beaten by Millfield School 2-8 in their first match and then narrowly lost to Eggliscliffe School 4-5 to leave them pointless after the first day. A 4-3 win over Havant HC the following morning offered them hope of a semi final score but they lost to Ipswich School in their last match 1-6. Despite the scores Beeston were never out played in these matches and bearing in mind they were able to play indoors only once between the Midlands and Nationals this was a performance of which they should be proud.
The U16s were without Will Collins on the second day as he was required to play a school match for Uppingham but added Robert Trem to the squad that won the midlands title. Their first opponents were also Millfield and the younger bees faired no better than their older clubmates losing 1-7 in the opening match. A 9-0 victory over Bowdon HC gave them 3 points at the end of the first day. Two more victories on the Saturday, 6-0 against Whitgift School and 6-1 over Ipswich School put Beeston level on points with Millfield School at the top of their group. Placed second on goal difference Beeston played Sevenoaks HC in the National semi final. In a close and sometimes controversial match Beeston were narrowly beaten 2-3. This however was a superb performance by a team that do not play any indoor hockey.
Many thanks once again to Stephen Twist, Ian Ward, Graham Dixon who travelled with the teams.
