15/02/10 When the results were published on the EH website today Beeston were the only club to have 3 teams left in the EH Junior Cups at The National Quarter Final stage!! The teams are only 1 match away from reaching the national Finals weekend which this year will be at Cannock HC on April 10/11th . When the draw was made later in the day all the teams were drawn away!!!
The National Quarter finals to be played on march 7th are:
U18 Boys Doncaster v Beeston
U16 Girls Pelicans v Beeston
U16 boys Canterbury v Beeston.
Subsequently the U18 boys tie has been switched to Highfields at the request of Doncaster this match will follow the Men’s Cup match between the two clubs. The U16 boys have furthest to travel but some of them have already played at Canterbury in the national finals in 2008. The U16 girls will travel to King’s Lynn in Norfolk.
14/02/10 The Cup day proper and the first to set off were the U16 Boys who had been drawn away to Ludlow. In an extremely sporting gesture Ludlow booked a pitch at Telford so that our boys did not have so far to travel. The Bees were 2 up in 8 minutes and never looked like losing this match and the final score was Ludlow 0 Beeston 8.. All the squad had plenty of pitch time and the coaches were able to try out different formations. The squad was Sam Steel, Jordan Homer, Richard Cartwright, Jack Simkins, Luke Cosford, Matt Shuttleworth(3g), Simon Webster, Chris Proctor(g), George Allison, Sam Perrin(2g), Sarbpreet Singh Hundal(g), Will Taylor, Josh Wainwright, Matt Shock, Mike Bevington(g).
Meanwhile back at Highfields the U16 Girls took to the pitch against Alderley Edge. The girls dominated the match from the start but took their time to score goals. The deadlock was eventually broken after 19 minutes when Katie Hopkisson scored a penalty stroke. 3 further goals were scored before half time by Kim Leiper 2 and Lowri Mackintosh. After the break Beeston were in full control with Olivia Hodgkinson scoring after 4 minutes. But even the U18 Boys were full of admiration for the fantastic drag flick scored by Katie Hopkisson to make it 6-0 to Beeston. Kim Leiper completed her hat trick with 10 minutes left  to make the final score Beeston 7 Alderley Edge 0. The squad was Martha Baker, Rebecca Boston, Holly Rainford, Maddie Sharpe, Emily Bower, Helen Starkey, Eve Linnington, Olivia Hodgkinson, Katie Hopkisson, Lowri Mackintosh, Ciara Bamford, Kim Leiper and Steph Hale.
Next on the Highfields water base were the Boys U18s. They had all the possession in the opening minutes but conceded a short corner the first time Ben Rhydding reached the D. Ben Rhydding duly scored and the Bees had to start buzzing. They were back on equal terms 2 minutes later with a goal from Liam Adams and Ben Morris put Beeston 2-1 in front midway through the first half. Beeston should then have been in complete control but they continued to be too casual and before half time Ben Rhydding were back on equal terms , scoring from the penalty spot. Coaches Clive Morris and Ryan Dawson had stern words with the boys at the interval! Within 5 minutes the score was 5-2 to Beeston with goals from Matt Parker, Ben Morris and an outrageously cheeky goal from Mark Smallwood.  Before the final whistle Ben Morris completed a hat trick and Ross Whiting scored. Ben Rhydding also scored once to make the final score Beeston 8 Ben Rhydding 3. The squad was David Overton, Nick Halliwell, Tom Vickerstaff, Leo Watton, Ian Welch, Matt Proctor, Ross Whiting, Greg Nolan, Matt Parker, Mark Smallwood, Ben Morris, Liam Adams, James Gunthorp, Marcus Hooper, Alex Clerk Dowson and Charlie Willars.
14/02/10 Beeston sent a girls’ and a boys’ team to the NoDe League Junior matches at Burton. Keith Chaplin and Andrew Sidebottom very kindly agreed to take the teams during a very busy day for the club. The girls lost to Beeston boys, drew with Burton A and beat Burton B and Lichfield. The Boys won all their matches.
10/02/10 The Girls U15 League match was cancelled tonight due to the weather.
07/02/10 Due to availability problems on Feb 14th Beeston U18 Girls travelled to Wakefield today to play their R4 (Last 16) Cup match a week early. With Madi Smith still unfit and Abi Krone and Verity Pierce unavailable the girls were still not at full strength. The Beeston girls played well and had their chances to win the match but the final score was Wakefield 2 Beeston 1. This marks a disappointing end to age group hockey for some of the squad, Abi, Verity, Vicki Monk, Helen Cartwright, Leigh Ann Taylor, Siobhan McLeod and Natalie Parker. We hope that they have enjoyed playing! The rest of the squad was Yasmin Haywood, Lucy Dawson, Bryony Haggart, Lauren Greasley, Gemma Foulkes, Wiz Mumby, Sophie Aspinall and Alice Page.
05/02/10 Beeston were named “Sports Club of the Year 2009” at the Nottinghamshire Sports review of 2009 held at the East Midlands Conference Centre. Well done to our whole membership!
03/02/10 The Boys U15 League matches were cancelled tonight due to the weather.
31/01/10 After the euphoria of last week and the excitement of a week filled with radio and TV appearances by Natalie Hardwicke and articles in the Post and on the England Hockey website Beeston Juniors and their supporters gathered at the Trent FM Arena on National Finals day.
In the end it was an anti climax with all 3 teams losing their finals! However the atmosphere was amazing and Beeston was the only club or school to have more than 1 finalist and we had 3!!! We must mention that Katie Hopkisson scored a hat trick, that Madi Smith was well enough to join the team on the bench but alas not on the pitch. Beeston should be justly proud of finishing National Runners Up in the Girls U16s, Boys U18 and Girls U18 Indoor Championships. Well done everybody!
Girls U16s=Martha Baker, Holly Rainford, Maddie Sharp, Emily Bower, Ciara Bamford, Katie Hopkisson, Megan Morgan, Kim Leiper, Abi Stephenson and Lowri Mackintosh.
Boys U18s= David Overton, Tom Vickerstaff, James Gunthorp, Marcus Hooper, Matt Parker, Ben Morris, Leo Watton, Alex Clark Dowson, Ross Whiting, Ian Welch and Liam Adams. Girls U18s= Yasmin Haywood, Wiz Mumby, Sophie Aspinall, Lucy Dawson, Lauren Greasley, Gemma Foulkes, Nat Parker, Steph Hale, Abi Krone and Alice Page, Madi Smith and Helen Cartwright.
Wiz Mumby and Abi Krone collected winners’ medals with Repton U18 girls the previous day at the schools finals.  Beeston’s Shona McCallin was also successful with Repton but has chosen not to play age group hockey for the club this season.
Beeston HC  would like to thank Nations Healthcare for sponsoring the U16 Girls’ indoor team and Woo Ltd for sponsoring  the U18 Girls’ Indoor team. www.wooltd.com
31/01/10 No colts coaching today due to frost.
27/01/10 Both Girls teams won in the U15 League tonight. BeestonGold beat WB/monarchs 10-1 and BeestonBees beat SBU 3-0.
22-24/01/10 Beeston were the only club in the country to have all 4 teams through to the National Qualifying weekend for the Clubs Indoor Championships! England Hockey was so impressed that they put it on their website! Both boys’ teams went to Southampton with Martin Keeling, Richard Stamp and Clive Morris; the U18 Girls went to Birmingham with Jane Currie and Emily Plant and the U16 Girls went to Sheffield with Natalie Hardwicke and James Hopkisson. Once again the U18 teams were below strength mainly due to A level modules but poor Maddie Smith was struck down by appendicitis just before the weekend! Text messages flew between the venues as the fortunes of the teams went up and down and hotel comparisons were made! At the end of the group matches the U16 boys finished 3rd, placing them =5th overall nationally! However the U18 Boys and U16 Girls finished runners up in their groups and the U18 Girls won their group which meant that these 3 teams had qualified for the semis. With places at The National Indoor Final at Trent FM Arena at stake once again the text messages went flying with each goal scored for or against! The U16 girls won first beating Havering 3-1; at this stage it was 0-0 in the girls U18 match and the U18 boys had not yet started to warm up! Then the news came through that the U18 Girls had won, beating Horsham 3-2. They had kept everyone on the edge of their seats by conceding a short corner on the whistle but defended it well to win! The U18 boys took to the pitch knowing both girls’ teams had won and to face Bowdon who had won all their group matches convincingly with a goal difference of +21! The boys started well opening up a 3 goal lead but Bowdon came back to equalize and although Beeston kept nudging ahead Bowdon  leveled the score each time including 10 seconds before the final whistle went at 7-7!!!! Beeston supporters could barely watch the strokes! Bowdon went first and scored, Matt Parker scored, David Overton saved, Ben Morris had his stroke saved, Bowdon missed and Marcus Hooper beat the GK but hit the post!!! Sudden death strokes with Beeston going first. Matt Parker scored…. David Overton produced a magnificent save! Beeston had an astonishing 3 teams through to the National Indoor finals day at Trent FM Arena Nottingham the following Sunday.
Teams: Girls U16s=Martha Baker, Holly Rainford, Maddie Sharp, Emily Bower, Ciara Bamford, Katie Hopkisson, Megan Morgan, Kim Leiper, Abi Stephenson and Lowri Mackintosh.

24/01/10 Beeston boys U15s took part in a triangular set of matches with Repton and Rossall school at Repton today. Beeston drew with Repton 0-0 and lost 0-2 to Rossall. The Beeston team was a predominantly U14 team due to the Indoor and illness so this was an encouraging performance against 2 strong school teams.
20/01/10 In the U15 League tonight BeestonGold Girls beat SBU 4-0 and BeestonBees Boys lost to WB/Monarchs 3-5.
17/01/10 The NoDe Junior fixtures have been cancelled. Colts coaching will take place as usual.
16-17/01/10 Several Bees were in action at the National Qualifying weekend for the Schools Indoor Championships. Midlands Champions Worksop U18 boys, Dave Overton, Matt Parker, Rob Trem, Charlie Willars, Mark Smallwood and Will Taylor,  were eliminated at the group stage; Midlands Runners up Repton U18 boys, Alex Clark Dowson , George Osborne and Leo Watton, were beaten in the semis; Midlands champions Repton U16 Girls, Pip Sanders and Lowri Mackintosh were eliminated at the group stage; Midlands Champions Repton U18 girls, Wiz Mumby, Abi Krone and Shona McCallin won their semi and qualified to play the National final at Trent FM arena Nottingham on 30/01/10.
13/01/10 Girls U15 League matches and Club training cancelled.
11/01/10 Monday Girls only Coaching Cancelled.
10/01/10 SNOW! All activity at Highfields cancelled including Colts Coaching.
19-20/12/09 Beeston U16 and U18 boys and girls teams all played at the new Club Midlands Indoor Championships this weekend Due to this scheduling all of Beeston’s teams were below strength however they put in some fine performances. The 16s played on Saturday with Beeston Boys playing in a 5 team round robin after Leicester failed to turn up, beating Belper, Ludlow and Lichfield before losing to Cannock in their last game to finish runners up. BeestonGirls U16s played in a 4 team round robin, Leicester girls also failed to turn up. Playing everyone twice the Beeston girls won all their matches beating Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield and Belper twice and scoring 27 goals and conceding only 2 to take the Midlands title!
On Sunday the 18s took part in group matches to qualify for crossover semi-finals. Beeston Girls U18s beat Leicester, Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield to finish top of their group and avoid Belper in the semis. They went on to beat Olton and West Warwick before losing to Belper 2-3 in the final when Belper converted a penalty corner in the last minute! Beeston Boys U18s also won their group beating Belper, Lichfield and drawing with Stourport who were controversially allowed to stay in the competition despite playing an ineligible player v Lichfield in their first match. The boys put in a good performance in the semis to beat a tricky Barford Tigers team 5-2 only to disappoint in the final which they lost to Cannock 2-4. However both the Boys’ and Girls’ U18 teams and the Boys’ U16 team join the Girls’ U16s as qualifiers for the National Indoor Finals weekend in January! This is a truly magnificent performance by the club. Should any of the Beeston teams qualify for their actual National Finals these will take place at the Nottingham Arena on January 31st.
Teams: Girls U16s=Martha Baker, Holly Rainford, Maddie Sharp, Emily Bower, Ciara Bamford, Katie Hopkisson, Megan Morgan, Kim Leiper.

13/12/09 Sunday coaching has now stopped until Jan 10th 2010.
08/12/09 A predominantly Beeston U10 Boys’ team played a mixed aged Players team tonight. Beeston came out winners after a close match 3-2 with Noah McGowan scoring a hat trick. The boys were coached by Ben and Sam Arnold.
06/12/09 Sunday 9-11am coaching had to be cancelled today due to heavy rain. However the later extra session for the U9s went ahead and 28 Beeston youngsters were split into 4 teams to enjoy a festival of mini hockey.
06/12/09 The Boys U14 match v Belper went ahead at Repton. Our team played very well and with the age group reverting to school definition we were much stronger than when we played Belper in the EH Club competition. Beeston won 5-1 with goals from Ashley Britton 2, Aaron and Elliott Hibell and Henry Fletcher Wilson. Kris Elston and Rob Britton travelled with the team.
30/11/09 Beeston were 1 of only 3 clubs to still have all 4 teams left in the EH Junior  Cups at the Last 16 stage! This is the second year that we have reached this level of consistency. The next round will be played on February 14th and Beeston have drawn the following teams:
U18 Boys v Ben Rhydding at home
U18 Girls v Wakefield away
U16 Boys v Ludlow away
U16 Girls v Alderley edge at home
29/11/09 Despite heavy rain on Sunday morning all 4 EH Cup ties were played at Highfields . The U18 Boys won convincingly 13-0 against Northampton; the U16 Girls beat Belper 1-0 in a match that they dominated more than the score suggests; the U16 Boys beat City of Peterborough  5-2 having stormed to a 5-0 lead with an impressive attacking start; the U18 Girls beat Lichfield 4-0  with a sound performance. Longer report to follow.
29/11/09 The U14 club competition matches were diverted to Trent College. Illness took its toll on all the squads and unfortunately West Bridgford were unable to field a complete team so conceded their fixtures with Belper and Beeston. Their matches were changed to friendly fixtures with Beeston lending them players. Belper beat Melton who were also under strenghth fielding only 8 players and no GK to finish top of the League. Beeston finished 3rd.
20/11/09 England Hockey announced the National Age Group Squads (NAGS) today. Congratulations to David Overton(U18B), Shona McCallin(U18G), Elice McNair(U16G), Kim Leiper(U16G) and Maddie Sharpe(U16G) who have all been selected.
18/11/09 The BeestonGold v Newark match in the girls’ U15 league was postponed tonight.
16/11/09 Beeston came out of the R3 draw for the EH Junior Club Cups with 4 home ties! The draw was as follows: U18B v Northants, U18G v Lichfield, U16B v Peterbro and U16G v Belper. Beeston are 1 of only 6 clubs that still have all 4 of their junior teams in the cups. The ties will be played on November 29th from 11am onwards. Bee there 4 the Bees!
15/11/09 We sent 3 mini hockey teams to Lichfield today with many of the younger players taking part in a match for the first time. The U12 girls’ team lost to an U12 mixed Lichfield team; the U10 girls beat Lichfield girls U10s and the U8 mixed team drew 0-0 with Lichfield U8s despite neither team fielding a goalkeeper!
15/11/09 In the NoDe Mini (U11B/U12G) matches today Beeston fielded a boys’ team of 8 and 9 year olds. The young Bees played well beating Boots and Ashfield easily before they began to tire and lost to an older mixed West Bridgford team.
15/11/09 In R2 of the EH Junior Club Cups today Beeston U16 and U18 boys won easily away at Leicester and North Notts respectively. However the day belonged to the U16 girls who won 16.0 away at Matlock! The U18 girls had been given a walkover Cannock on Thursday.
11/11/09 In the U15 League tonight BeestonGold boys beat West Bridgford/M 4-1 and BeestonBees boys lost narrowly 1-2 to Ashfield.
04/11/09 In the U15 League tonight BeestonBees girls beat WB/Monarchs 3-0. The BeestonGold girls match v SBU was postponed.

Katie Hopkisson has also been given an England assessment after her performance at the U15 HiPAC.
01/11/09 The U14 girls maintained their form in the new EH Club competition by beating Matlock 2-0 and SBU 5-0 in the second Sunday of matches. This qualifies them for the North Regional Finals on April 11th. The squad of Izzie S, Ellie H, Katie H, Dani P, Hayley C, Liv H, Imogen H, Sophia L, Erica S, Lauren W, Orla B, Fran T, Georgia M, Lily Kitts and Camilla C were coached and managed by Kate Crosby and James Hopkisson. The young U14 boys’ team faired less well in their first Sunday of matches losing 0-3 to Belper in a closer match than the score suggests and then 0-3 to a strong older Melton team. This means that the boys cannot progress to the regional finals but as most of them will qualify to play again next year this must be seen as a development season. The squad of Emil L, Jack S, Ollie A, Ian C, Aaron H, Ben N, Elliott Wr, James B, Adam F, Tom G, Yiannos K, Ed S, Harry S, Matt Wr and Cellan G were coached by Martin Keeling and Nick Parr umpired.
30/10/09 An U11 boys’ team took part in friendly matches at Boots HC. The young Bees were in superb form and played some lovely passing hockey. They beat West Bridgford 6-0, Nottingham 3-0 and Boots 9-0.  Every player scored except martin Davies who was in superb form in the Beeston goal. The squad of Martin D, Gaz G (3g), Yaz K (5g), Henry E (1g), Andrew L (2g), Matt F (1g), Connall D (4g), Freddie H (1g) and Henry C (1g) were coached by Martin Keeling with Mike Croft umpiring.

Kim Leiper, Elice McNair and Maddie Sharpe (Mercia Lynx U16G) were runners up; and Liam Adams, David Overton, Mark Smallwood and Ian Welch (Mercia Lynx U18B) finished a disappointing 4th.
25/10/09 Beeston Girls provided the opposition for the Mercia Lynx U16 girls team at Highfields today as part of the preparation for the EH Futures Cup next weekend. Beeston narrowly lost 2-3.
22/10/09 Beeston U16 girls played Cartouche today and drew 4-4. The Dutch touring team beat Belper HC 14-2.
18/10/09 In today’s NoDe league mini fixtures at Ashfield a Beeston U11 team beat South Nottm 6-0, Boots 4-0 and Ashfield 2-0. The team of martin D, Matt F, Gaz G, Yaz K, Andrew L, Connall D, Henry E and Freddie H all played very well. Gaz and Andrew were top scorers with 4 each. Clive Morris coached the team.
18/10/09 In the first fixtures of the new U14 club Competition Beeston U14 Girls beat Belper 4-0 the goals were scored by Imogen H, Fran T and L Kitts but the whole squad played well. The squad of Izzie S, Gina L, Lauren W, Dani P, Ellie H, Liv H, Katie H, Hayley C, Imogen H, Sophia L, Georgia M, Orla B, Lily K and Fran T were coached and managed by Kate Crosby and James Hopkisson. Neil Stevens kindly travelled as the umpire. The rest of the group results were Belper 2 SBU 0 & Matlock 1 SBU 0. See Match Report.

08/10/09 Derwent Boys U14s have withdrawn from the EH Club Competition today which may result in some alterations to the fixtures on Nov 1st and 29th (see news 25/09/09).
06/10/09 Beeston teams were drawn away in all 4 R2 matches in the EH Junior Cups today. The R2 ties which will be played on Nov 15th are:
U18B v North Notts away, U18G v Cannock away, U16B v Leicester away, U16G v Matlock Baileans away
04/10/09 The U18 Boys were the only Beeston team to have a R1 tie in the EH Junior Club Cups; they played Derwent at home. Derwent arrived with a young and inexperienced team and had no reserves. The match was no contest, Beeston lead 9-0 at half term and went on to score relentlessly in the second half. The final score was Beeston 31 Derwent 0, a club record. Beeston Squad= David O, Nick H, Tom V 1g, Charlie W 2g, Ian W 2g,
Mark Sm 1g, Marcus H 5g, Greg N 1g, Matt Pa 2g, Ben M 6g, Ross Wh 2g, Liam A 7g, Joe E, James G,

Ashfield 3-0, lost 2-3 to North Notts and drew 1-1 with Boots. Beeston Squad = Jack Sm, Cellan and
Gareth Gr, James B 3g, Will J, Simon St, Henry Mac 2g, Harry So 1g and Maaz Ch.
03/10/09 The girls received a last minute invitation to the Foremarke Hall School U11 tournament. They played remarkably well considering that this was the first time they had played together and that their opponents were mostly school teams now several weeks into term. In their group matches although they dominated Beeston
girls failed to score drawing 0-0 with Bromsgrove, Grace Dieu and a strong A team from Foremarke. The
semi final v Belper HC also ended 0-0 even after extra time! However Phoebe Badcock was in tremendous
form in the Beeston goal saving 2 out 3 Belper strokes. Beeston’s Paige Gillott and Zoe Chaplin scored for
Beeston to put the team through to the final. Once again the score was 0-0 at the end of normal time but 1
minute before the end of extra time Fairfield School scored a cracking golden goal. Beeston therefore
finished a creditable Runners Up! Beeston Squad= Phoebe B, Zoe Ch, Paige G, Tosia K, Niamh E,
Beeston Squad= Will P, Tom G, Yiannos K, Elliott Wr, James B 1g, Henry FW 4g, Ed S 3g and Matt Wr.
Amelia A, Phoebe H, Emily M, Nina A.
02/10/09 A Beeston Boys U13 team played Boots in a 7 a side friendly match. The match was 25 minutes
each way and Beeston played very well in the first half but only led 2-0 at the interval. In the 2nd half however
although Boots defended bravely Beeston scored 6 times to make the final score Boots 1 Beeston 8.
