Beeston U11s played well but the matches were short and goals were rare! They drew 1-1 with Coventry and NW and 0-0 with Rutland before losing 0-1 to Great Houghton. In the 5th/6th play off they drew 1-1 with Bromsgrove School placing them =5th. The U13s started against Trent College with Bees buzzing on both sides the result was a 0-0 draw! Beeston went on to beat Ludlow 2-0 and draw with Bromsgrove 0-0 to qualify for the semi finals. A 1-1 draw in the semi final against Cannock led to a mammoth penalty stroke competition which Beeston won on sudden death 10-9! Waiting for them in the final was Trent College! Another 0-0 draw between the teams led to another penalty shoot out which unfortunately this time Beeston lost 1-2. We wish Bees Simon Webster, Alex Butler, Josh Wainwright and Chris Proctor and the rest of the Trent team good luck when they play in the National Minis Finals at Highfields in May. PHOTOS 26/04/08 We arranged an U9 intraclub tournament today including girls from NHHC. Some of the players will go on to the U9 festival. NHHC share the facility with Beeston and currently field 5 Ladies teams, in the National (North), Midlands and Notts Leagues. Next season this means there will be 8 Beeston Ladies teams giving the junior girls a comparable player pathway as the boys. The new club will increase the coaching and playing expertise available to all the juniors. It is an exciting venture for all members. 01/04/08 Successfully re-accredited following an independent Nominated Officer visit and subsequent verification of the club assessment file, Beeston Hockey Club (EH id: 1070) has been recognised as working towards providing a Safe, Effective and Child Friendly club environment, and as such has been re-awarded the England Hockey ClubsFirst Accreditation. The U15s continued to be drawn away this time to Derwent.Beeston played below their usual form against a tough Derwent team. The Bees took the lead after only 4 minutes however Derwent equalised minutes later to put pressure on the away team. Beeston’s superior play took them to a 4-1 lead at the interval. In the second half Derwent scored from a penalty stroke and then the Bees took control the final score was Derwent 2 Beeston 7. The U18s were drawn at home to Coalville Town HC who regarded themselves as potential giant killers of the cup, see www.coalvilletownhc.com.uk. Alas for them it was not to be as the first time that they touched the ball was when their goalkeeper picked it out of the back of the net. Luckily for Coalville with schoolboy internationals David Jones, George Scott, Ben Arnold and Ian Welch and German regional player Per Pink all missing they were spared the full might of the Beeston U18s! However such is our strength in depth the team still swamped Coalville playing the fast flowing style of hockey that has become Beeston’s trademark. The Bees scored at will and were 9-0 up at half time. After the interval the Beeston defence relaxed and Coalville, to their credit, never gave up scoring 3 goals in the second half to Beeston’s 11. The final score was Beeston 20 Coalville Town 3. 09/03/08 Beeston Girls U11s and U13s played friendly matches arranged by Nottm Highfields today. The girls won all their matches convincingly. The development team, Beeston Gold continued their good form beating South Notts 2-1 with goals from Sam Gospel and Rob Procter. Provided Beeston MK beat South Notts in their last match they will win the league. If they win by 3 clear goals or more our development team, BeestonGold, will finish 3rd! 02/03/08 The Boys Midland Counties were in action again today in week 2 of the round robin matches that will decide the qualifiers for the Nationals. Both their girls and boys teams contained a significant number of Beeston players and both reached finals against Belper HC which ended in draws. The boys won and the girls lost on penalty strokes! 01/03/08 In the Boys Schools Cup semi finals Trent U14s bt Fernwood U14s, Trent U16s won and Worksop U18s beat Trent U18s in a highly competitive match! 27/02/08 BeestonMK beat Newark in the U15 League 16-0, Matt Parker scored 4goals; both Josh Greaves and James Powell scored hat tricks; Ali Postlethwaite and Marcus Wright each scored twice and the remaining two goals were scored by Jonathan Purkiss and Rory Macildowie. 24/02/08 Several of our girls were in action today at the Midlands Counties Championships. Notts U15s were very unlucky to lose their semi final on penalties to Leics who went on to win the title by beating Beds in the final and therefore qualify for the Nationals. Derbys U15s lost to Beds in the semis. Ella Holloway played for Notts and Maddie Smith played for Derbys. Bex Brown, Grace Morledge and Alice Shuttleworth played for Notts in the U17s Championship which was won by Derbys. 24/02/08 In the Mini NoDe matches hosted by Matlock today our all girls team beat Matlock and Burton but lost to an all boys Belper team. Team= Issey S, Livvie H, Hayley C, Robin H-C, Jessie H, Anna C, Gina L and Paige G. 20/02/08 BeestonGold, our development team played extremely well in their U15 league match to beat West Bridgford 5-0 and pick up 4points for a win and a bonus point. The Beeston girls match v Ashfield has been postponed until later in the season. 17/02/08 The Boys county matches due to be played today have been postponed until March 30th and the County U19 tournament on that date has been cancelled. 17/02/08 In Round 2 of the Girls Plate competiton our teams found the opposition too strong; the U18s lost 0-4 away at Leek and our U15s lost 0-10 away to a very good Leicester team. 16/02/08 Colts coaching has again been cancelled tomorrow as a severe frost has been predicted. 14/02/08 The Boys’ Schools Cup has reached the Midland stages, several teams still in the competitions feature Beeston Colts! In the U14s Trent (Derbys) bt Loughbro Gr (Leics) in the quarter finals; they will play Fernwood(Notts) in the semi finals. We wish all the Bees well and may the best teams win! 10/02/08 The Boys Midland Counties were in action today in week 1 of the round robin matches that will decide the qualifiers for the Nationals. Notts were very successful! The U15s (Y.O.B. 1993 or later) beat Derbyshire 6-0, Leics 14-2 and Northants 16-0. Charlie Willars, Joe Egglenton, Rory Macildowie, Marcus Hooper, George Osborne, Chris Proctor, Matt Parker, Jack Simkins, Matt Shuttleworth and Josh Greaves all played for Notts and Toby Howard played for Leics but James Powell was unavailable. The ties will be played on March 9th. 03/02/08 In Round 3 of the EH Club Cup today saw both Beeston Boys’ teams in action. The U18s played Brigg at home and were never in any danger taking the lead after only a minute when Charlie Brooke scored the first of his 4 goals. Richard Lawrence scored a hat trick of drag flicks and the final score was Beeston 7 Brigg 0. The U15s were again drawn away this time to Belper. The Bees started sluggishly, letting Belper have several shots which were easily saved by David Overton in the Beeston goal, before Matt Parker scored in the 6th minute. Marcus Hooper scored Beeston’s second before halftime. The superiority of the Beeston team took it’s toll on Belper in the second half with a hat trick of goals from Matt Parker and a spectacular volley from James Powell to take the score to Beeston 6 Belper 0. The team were warmly entertained in the Belper clubhouse after the game and we look forward to our clubs uniting as The Outlaws in the U13 Championships at Highfields again this summer. 30/01/08 Beeston Girls played Ashfield in the U15 League tonight. This was another close and competitive match which finally ended 2-2 . Beeston goals were scored by Claire Musson and Emily Bower. 27/01/08 Team Beeston swung into action again today, with help from Nottm Highfields, as we hosted the Girls County Mini Hockey Championships. The U11s played in the morning. BeestonJH, coached by James Hopkisson, won their group by drawing with WB/Monarchs 0-0 and beating Nottm Highflds 3-0, St Peters 4-0 and BeestonPW 4-0. Runners Up in the group were BeestonPW coached by Paul Willars they beat WB/Monarchs 1-0, Nottm Highflds 2-0 and St Peters 2-0 but lost to BeestonJH. The development team BeestonPW went on to lose their semi final against Newark otters 1-5 but this was an excellent performance by this team it is the first time we have had 2 teams in the semi finals. Disappointingly BeestonJH could not convert possession into goals hitting the woodwork several times and were beaten by eventual champions, Ranby who scored a breakaway goal to win the match 1-0. In the afternoon the U13s were in action. With 8 girls in cup tied by Trent College we were not at full strength but the BeestonJH team finished runners Up in this round robin competition by beating Newark Beavers 2-1, Nottm Highflds B 5-0, Nottm Highflds A 1-0 and BeestonPW 2-0; drawing 1-1 with Ranby Hse and only losing to the eventual champions Newark Otters 0-4. The development team found the opposition tougher but still beat Nottm Highflds B 2-0 and drew 0-0 with Nottingham Highflds A, finishing 6th. Many thanks to the coaches, parents and older juniors who helped at both the Boys and Girls County Mini Championships this year. Although no team qualified for the Midlands this was the best all round performance by our girls at these championships. We await with interest to hear how Trent College U13s get on in the Derbyshire minis on March 2nd! 27/01/08 The hosts SBU have cancelled the mini NoDe League matches due to be played today. 25/25/01/08 Beeston Boys U16s travelled to the National Indoors Finals weekend at Aldersley after 4 indoor coaching sessions from australian international danny Brennan. Up against schools with specialist indoor coaches and several months of weekly training behind them Beeston’s indoor inexperience was always going to be a handicap. On Friday they drew 2-2 with Preston HC after leading 2-0 with only a few minutes to go then lost 1-3 to Ipswich School. Saturday started with a Beeston win against Exeter School 4-2 before the boys naivety to indoor hockey showed in a 0-6 defeat to Kingston Grammar School. However the experience of playing indoor hockey at this level will have progressed the boys skills and they will be back to try again next year; half the squad still qualifies for the U16 age group. Beeston Squad Nick Halliwell, David Overton, Rob Trem, Ian Welch, Matt Proctor, Tom Vickerstaff, Greg nolan, Matt Parker, Marcus Hooper, George Osborne, Liam Adams and Ryan smith. The U18s will take no comfort in the fact that Bromsgrove School lost the National Final on penalty strokes. Beeston U18s were denied a chance to qualify for the Nationals after losing their closely fought group match 2-3 to Bromsgrove in a midlands tournament organised with no crossover semi finals. 23/01/08 Beeston Gold, our boys’ development team had a tough match tonight against Mansfield in the U15 league. The Beeston boys played with determination and lost 1-4 to the stronger experienced Mansfield team. Beeston’s goalscorer was Tom Kirkwood one of the 2 overage players allowed under the new rules this season. 20/01/08 The following Beeston players have been selected to attend Notts Development training:Josh Robinson, Chris and Rebecca Parker, Ben Carr, Henry Fletcher Wilson, Josh Wainwright, Ed Heath, Tom, Richard and James Barton, Alex Butler, Kate Elcock, Emily Hopkins, Georgia Miszewska, Catherine Booth, Ali Wilding, Travis Merryweather and Gabby MacSweeney. 13/01/08 With the Boys County Minis taking place at Highfields James Hopkisson took an all girl team to the Junior NoDe League matches hosted by Monarchs HC. The girls beat Monarchs 3-0 and Chesterfield 2-1 but lost to Boots 0-3. Team = Ruth H, Livvie H, Kate S, Kelsey T, Alice D, Emily H, Eve L and Maddie Sc . This was a pleasing performance by the girls as most of the team were U13s or younger. 13/01/08 Team Beeston moved into action at the Boys Mini Hockey Notts Championships today. Club members, senior and junior, helped with the umpiring, coaching and organisation of the tournament. In the morning Beeston MK beat St Peters 1-0 in the final to win the U11 title for the first time since 2005. The U11 development team, coached by Tim France, finished a creditable 5th. In the afternoon the U13 tournament was a round robin formatt culminating in a match between the unbeaten Grosvenor and Beeston MK teams. With a superior goal difference Grosvenor, U11 champions for the last 2 seasons, only needed a draw. Beeston played very well containing the previously high scoring Grosvenor team and took the lead with a goal from Tom Mayfield. Will Taylor made certain of a Beeston victory when he scored the second goal with only a minute to go. Beeston have now won the U13 title for the last 7 years and 9 times in 10 years! The U13 development team, coached by Kris Elston, also played very well finishing 4th. The victorious U11 and U13 Beeston teams will now represent Notts at the Midlands Minis on April 27th. 10/01/08 Beeston’s Ian Welch and David Overton were named in the England U16 squad due to play in Dublin at Easter, unfortunately David is unavailable so will not play in that tournament. 09/01/08 Beeston’s Adam Dixon was named in the England squad to play in the Eurohockey Indoor Challenge at Sheffield. Adam, another former Beeston U18 captain, was the England captain when they played Scotland before Christmas. 09/01/08 In the Boys U15 League tonight BeestonMK beat BeestonGold 7-3. All members of team Beeston played well! 07/01/08 Beeston’s Ali Wilson and George Pinner have been named in the GB squad to tour South Africa in January. Ali is a former Beeston U18 captain and George played against Beeston in national competitions as a junior, that’s what made him such a good goalie! 06/01/08 With England U16 boys using Highfields today regular colts coaching had to be cancelled. However we arranged U16, U15 and U14 boys friendly matches against Oakham School. Beeston won all 3 matches with some very good performances. The scores were U16s Beeston 7 Oakham 1, U15s Beeston 6 Oakham 1 and U14s Beeston 6 Oakham 1. 16/12/07 Although frost prevented colts coaching at Beeston today the pitches at Cannock were playable for the Boys Midlands U17(yob 1990 or later) Championships. Notts fielded 13 Beeston players Sam Cathie, John Barr, Sam Arnold, Chris Price, Ollie Willars, Charlie Brooke, Ian Welch, Felix Evans, Sam Dixon, Dan Gillott, Rob Trem, Ed Torr and Liam Adams. Notts reached the final by beating Northants 6-2, Warks 1-0 and Derbys 3-0. However the pitches at Cannock were frozen and so the final between Notts and Leics was cancelled and the counties shared the title. 09/12/07 As Notts only entry both Beeston teams qualified for the Indoor Hockey Midlands Championships today. The U18 boys were coached by Beeston 1st team players Tom Skinner and James McBlane and managed by Graham Dixon. The team played well in their first match beating Princethorpe 6-0. Although 2 teams qualified for the Nationals from this event because the organisers did not include crossover semi finals the crunch match was a group match against Bromsgrove. This was a high quality competitive indoor match but unfortunately Beeston lost 2-3! Beeston went on to win their next match against Adams Grammar 5-2 but qualification for the Nationals was now impossible. Hopefully next year crossover semis will be played to ensure that the best 2 teams go forward to represent the midlands at the Nationals. The U16 boys were coached by Danny Brennan, an Australian indoor international who is playing for Beeston in the Men’s National Premier Indoor league this season, and managed by Martin Keeling. The U16 team were novices to the indoor game but learnt quickly winning their group by beating Repton 5-2, losing 1-2 to Lichfield and beating Princethorpe 7-0. With a place at the Nationals guaranteed they went on to beat Bromsgrove 3-1 in the final to retain their Midlands title. U18s= David Jones, Sam Dixon, Ollie Willars, Ben and Sam Arnold, Ed Torr, Per Pink and Sam Ward (guest). U16s= David Overton, Rob Trem, Ian Welch, Liam Adams, Tom Vickerstaff, Marcus Hooper, Ryan Smith and Matt Proctor. The U16s will compete at the National Championships later in January. The squad will be coached by Danny Brennan and Tom Skinner and managed by Martin Keeling. 09/12/07 In today’s Mini NoDe League matches at Beeston both our boys and girls’ u11s played. This was an excellent performance by our young team as Newark made full use of the overage player rule! Sam gospel scored Beeston’s goal. 29/11/07 George Scott missed out on the 25-0 win in the cup last weekend to attend a Scotland assessment. However it was well worth it as George has been selected for the Scotland U18 squad, well done! 28/11/07 In the first matches of the U15 league Beeston (Boys)MK bt Mansfield 3-1 and Beeston (Girls)MP lost to SBU 1-2. Teams and Report. 27/11/07 In the draws for the EH Cup Beeston U15 Boys were drawn away to Belper and Beeston U18 Boys were drawn at home to Brigg. These ties are to be played on Feb 3rd 2008. Having lost their first matches in the EH Cup our girl teams went into the EH Plate, both were given byes in Round 1. However we are awaiting the draw for Round 2 which is due to be played in the middle of half term Feb 17th 2008! 27/11/07 Reluctantly Beeston U16 Girls were withdrawn from the Midlands Indoor Championships due to be held on Saturday December 1st as too many of the seniors players were unavailable due to school commitments! This is a continuing problem for clubs when official hockey events are held on Saturdays! 26/11/07 Following their performance at the England assessment camps Ben Arnold and Charlie Brooke were selected for the England U18 squad and David Overton and Ian Welch have made it into the next assessment for the England U16 squad. well done to all of them! 25/11/07 Colts coachng had to be cancelled today due to a fixture overload at Beeston! Even then there was no room for Beeston boys U15s who played their match at Trent College! The EH Junior Club Cup R2 results were as follows: Boys U15s Beeston 15 West Bridgford 1 Boys U18s Beeston 25 Long Sutton 0 Girls U15s Beeston 0 Matlock 0, Matlock won 3-2 on penalties. Beeston= Jordan H, James S(2g), Ethan W, Will T, Ed H, Chris P, Tom M(3g) and Ben C(2g). Thanks to James Keeling and Tim France who organised not only our team but also all the matches on what was a very busy day at Beeston! 21/11/07 Beeston Girls U16s were left with only 2 matches in their Midlands Zonal round when, understandably, Cannock HC were unable to travel to Nottingham High School for the midweek early evening start! Despite last minute problems with availability Beeston beat NGHS 2-1 and Woverhampton High School 5-0 to win the zonal round. NGHS with Beeston’s Bex Brown, Viki Monk and Imogen Bachra also qualified for the main Midlands Championships. Beeston= Grace Morledge, Emily Bower, Jenny Burke, Madi Smith, Katie Hopkisson, Alice Shuttleworth and Ella Holloway. Thanks to David Griffiths who gave up his time to coach the team. 20/11/07 Beeston Girls U18s found the opposition too strong at the Midlands Zonal round held at Repton school tonight, losing to Belper, Nottm highflds and Repton. The girls made a tremendous effort to get to Repton in time to play some travelling directly from a school game at Wellingborough! Stafford school were unable to travel that night and had to withdraw! Beeston= Becky Morley, Hannah Price, Tori Broughton, Amy Skoyles, Charlotte hopkins, Jo Taylor, Lucy Stephenson and Rosie Farish. Thanks to Adam Dixon and Stephen Twist who gave up their time to coach and umpire. 19/11/07 Congratulations to the following girls who have been selected for county squads: Hayley Chaplin(Derbys U13B), Jessie Honarmand(Derbys U13), Alicia Merryweather and Beth Davys(Notts U13), Maddie Smith(Derbys U15), Ella Holloway(Notts U15), Laura Mehigan, Grace Morledge, Bex Brown and Holly Brown(Notts U17).
