The Outlaws have competed for 3 years at this tournament and originally agreed to play when the Midlands failed to field a team on the condition that they could play overage players to compensate the fact that the team was only drawing from 2 clubs and not a whole region. It was a great disappointment to the managers, coaches, parents and boys that the organiser and tournament director failed to keep this agreement. 01/03/09 It was a busy day in the Junior Cups and unfortunately a disappointing one for Beeston!
The U18 Boys played Stourport at home in R4(last 16). Despite taking the lead when Tremmie converted a penalty corner after 26 minutes the team failed to capitalise on their superior possession. Stourport equalised early in the 2nd half and won 3-1 on penalty strokes after the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Stourport went on to qualify for the National finals weekend where they finished 2nd. This was a last age group match for: Ed Torr who was playing only his second match back after his horrible knee injury, Ollie Macildowie who pulled his back in the warm up and so did not play today, Felix Evans, James Dexter, George Scott and Robert Trem. The rest of the team were Nick Halliwell, Liam Adams, Ian Welch, Tom Vickerstaff, Matt Proctor, Ross Whiting, Mark Smallwood, Matt Parker, Leo Watton and Marcus Hooper.
The U15 Boys were also drawn at home, versus Timperley, in their R4 (last 16) match. Once again the team were not at full strength with Matt Shuttleworth on the sidelines. Despite an early goal from Timperley Beeston gradually took control with 2 goals from Jack Simkins and 1 from Sam Gospel before the interval. Mike Bevington and Chris Proctor added to the Beeston total in the second half, giving a final score of Beeston 5 Timperley 1, putting Beeston through to the National Quarter Finals. Beeston Squad = Sam Steele, Rhys Stevenson, Simon Webster, Tom Fletcher-Wilson, Rob Procter, Luke Cosford, Jack Simkins, Alex Smith, Alesandro Congiu, Sarbpreet Singh Hundal, Sam Gospel, Richard Cartwright, Chris Proctor, Will Taylor and Mike Bevington.
Meanwhile Beeston U15 Girls who had eliminated Matlock, Belper, Cannock and Leicester were rewarded with an away fixture against the reigning National champions, Wakefield, in their National Quarter Final! The match was tight but when Beeston went 1-2 down in the second half the girls had to chase the game for an equaliser which led to a 3rd goal for Wakefield. This team have done superbly well this season and will look forward to competing together again next year in the new U16 age group. Wakefield went on to retain the National title and Belper were the losing finalists in the Plate. Beeston Squad = Martha Baker, Emily Bower, Rebecca Boston, Maddie Sharpe, Helen Starkey, Katie Hopkisson, Eve Linnington, Megan Morgan, Ciara Bamford, Kate Sotheran, Maddie Scott, Olivia Hodgkinson, Charlotte Mills, Kim Leiper, Holly Rainford and Elice McNair.

15/02/09 Beeston U18 Girls played Leicester in R4 of the U18 cup match which was postponed from last week and relocated to Highfields as Leicester’s pitch was still unplayable. In a cracking match Leicester led 2-0 at half time but the Bees pulled level with goals from Sophie Aspinall and Gemma Foulkes and even had chances to win the match before the final whistle was blown. The resulting penalty stroke competition proved equally tense with Beeston taking an early advantage but Leicester coming back to draw 2-2 after 5 strokes. Leicester went on to win in the first round of sudden death penalties. The Beeston girls were naturally disappointed but should be proud of reaching this stage in the cup with such a young team, only 3 of the squad are too old to play next year. Leicester went on to qualify for the National finals weekend where they finished 4th; Matlock Baileans who were beaten by Beeston in R2 went on to be runners up in the Plate competition.

This is the first time that Beeston have won their own girls tournament; well done Izzy, Beth, Livvie, Sophia, Maddy, Jessie, Ellie, Katie and Dani, not forgetting coach Natalie Hardwicke. 17/05/08 Beeston, now merged with NHHC, fielded 3 teams but played as 4 countries in the U9 Beijing Festival which formed part of the National Youth Hockey Festival held at Highfields. Unlike previous years the teams played only group matches and therfore no winners were declared. BeestonSwitzerland played 4 matches and won them all; they also played 3 matches as BeestonIndia and won those too! They scored 17 goals and only conceded 1. Well done Baden, Gareth, Tom, Andrew, Josh, Zoe, Paige, Niamh and Natalie! Beeston Australia played 4 matches winning 2 and drawing 2; they drew one match as BeestonIndia. BeestonCanada our youngest team did not have such impressive results but they all played well too.
17/05/08 In the afternoon Beeston juniors acted as ball gatherers in the Women’s and Men’s EH Cup Finals which were held at our home ground Highfields for the first time. Leicester won the Women’s Cup before all our attention turned to the men, Beeston were playing Bowden! The Bees built up a 3 goal lead before Bowden pegged them back to 3-3. The winner was scored by captain David Griffiths. A lifelong member of Beeston HC David first played for the club when he was 7yrs old in the county U11 mini hockey tournament. The ecstatic home crowd watched Beeston lift the cup for the first time in their 101 year history. Current U18s Ben Arnold and Sam Dixon were in the squad as well as former colts David Griffiths, Steve Lawrence and Adam Dixon.
09-11/05/08 TeamBeeston were on their travels once again, this time the U15 and U18 boys made their way to Canterbury to take part in the round robin finale to the National Cups. Beeston were the only club to take 2 boys teams. We had a very successful Saturday; the U18s won both their matches by 2 goals to 1 against Reading and Harleston Magpies with goals from Ben Arnold and Charlie Brooke each time. Good job Doc Martin was on hand as Ben was stitched up beside the pitch in the Harleston match. Luckily he was able to continue unlike Felix Evans who was injured after the first match and took no further part in the tournament. The U15s won their only match of the day against Deeside Ramblers 3-0 with goals from Josh Greaves, Marcus Hooper and Ali Postlethwaite. On the Saturday evening we were top of both tables and might have already been crowned U18 champions but for a last minute equaliser scored by Bowden to secure a 3-3 draw with Reading in the final match of the day! Sunday morning started badly with the U15s conceding a goal against a competitive High Wycombe team in the first half after Matt Parker had hit the post. Beeston failed to equalise and lost 0-1 their first defeat in 5 years in this competition! The U18s started tentatively against Bowden, a match that they only needed to draw. Bowden were awarded a goal after a goal mouth scramble and the Beeston boys lost their way for 10 minutes. Bowden took full advantage of this and scored a second goal before the interval. In the second half the Bees swarmed into the attack and Ben Arnold scored. Despite a relentless onslaught by Beeston Bowden’s defence held out and the final score of Bowden 2 Beeston 1 meant Beeston were runners up in the National Cup. The U15s played well in their last match knowing the national title was already beyond their grasp. Two goals from Marcus and one from Matt Parker gave them a 3-1 victory over Canterbury and secured the National runners up spot.
National Runners Up in both U15 and U18 Boys Cups is still something to be very proud of and we congratulate our squads.
