These festivals formed part of the National Youth Hockey Festival held at Beeston’s home ground Highfields on Saturday 14th May.
The U9s festival was open to all Club 1st Accredited Clubs and Affiliated Schools in England. Boys/girls or mixed teams participated in an Olympic themed festival where every team played as and adopted country for the morning, Beeston entered a mixed team and played as Australia. The team was coached by Kris Elston and they played very well winning 1 match drawing 5 and only losing once to the most successful side in the tournament. Beeston’s U9 Squad was Callum Swift, Ben Trembling, Ollie Atkin, Ben Nevill, Rowan Elston, Harry Sotheran, Tom Gorman, Cellan Griffiths, Imogen Hooper and Maddie Heeley.
The U14s festival was open only to Club 1st Accredited Clubs and Beeston once again played as Australia. The majority of our U15 team playing in the National Cup Final at Bowdon on Saturday were U14s, our U13s were playing in the U13 National Minis on Sunday and a further 10 players were unavailable so the Beeston team coached by Vic Gram Hansen was a scratch team made up of U14s and U13s that had never played together before. The team did exceptionally well underlining once again the strength of our club at this age group. Beeston/Australia finished runners up in their group then drew 0-0 with Canterbury/GB in the 3rd/ 4th play off but finished 3rd overall after winning on penalty strokes 4-2. Beeston’s U14 Squad was Sam Cathie, Harj Gataora, Chris Powell, Guy Perkins, Bradley Gram-Hansen, Adam Corbett, Dan Roper, Cameron Heeley, Tom Pithouse and Ross Whiting.
