BEESTON HOCKEY CLUB
COLTS
Beeston Complete a Unique Triple Treble

Once again the sun shone at the Hinckley Tournament as Team Beeston swung into action. This was our most ambitious entry ever with 2 teams in each of the age groups u11, u13 and u15. The logistics were quite horrifying with 54 kids to assemble, 96 shirts to be allocated, coaches and umpires for 6 teams and Colts BBQ/Awards tickets to be sold!

The day started off with the U11s at 9-15am the morning after Beeston Hockey Club dinner, well done to all club members who managed to attend both.
Beeston U11VGH: Rhys Stevenson, Josh Robinson, Jake Trembling, Sarbpreet Singh Hundal, Will Jackson, Grace Trem, Imogen Hooper, Katie Morrice and Rozie Smith. In the group matches Beeston VGH won 2 and lost 2 scored 4 goals and conceded 5 qualifying for the 5th/6th play off which ended in a goalless draw.
Beeston U11MK: Cassie Jordan, Charlie Gram-Hansen, Ella Holloway, Isabelle Morledge, Matt Shuttleworth, Robert Procter, James Powell, Jack Simkins and Ryan Elliott. In the group matches Beeston MK won 3 drew 1 scored 13 goals and conceded 0 and qualified for the semi finals. Beeston MK easily beat Sth Leics 4-0 in the semi final but had difficulty breaking through the Coventry & NW defence in the final which ended 0-0. The resulting 5 minutes of extra time also failed to produce a result so a penalty stroke barrage decided the title! The result of the shoot out was Beeston 4 Coventry & NW 2. Beeston had successfully retained the U11 title by keeping cool under pressure.

Once the changeover between the 2 x u11s and the 2 x u13s and 2 x u15s was successfully negotiated and Pete Shuttleworth had allocated the umpiring duties we were off, the matches alternating between the u13 and u15 teams. The sunshine broke through and the refreshments provided by Hinckley were up to their usual high standards, this really is a most enjoyable tournament.
Anyway this is the story of the afternoon!
Beeston U13VGH: Grace Morledge, Emily Slatcher, Amy Marriott, Alice Shuttleworth, Ali Prince, Charlie Willars, Bradley Gram-Hansen, Nick Charlish, Liam Adams. In the group matches BeestonVGH won 3 and lost 1 scored 8 goals and conceded 3, qualifying for the semi finals.
Beeston U13MK: Jon Allcock, Rob Trem, Marcus Hooper, Ryan Smith, Ian Welch, Jenny Burke, Bex Brown, Phillipa Burgin and Holly Brown. In the group matches BeestonMK won all 3 of their matches, scoring 13 goals and conceding 0, qualifying for the semi finals.

The all Beeston semi final was won by BeestonMK 3-0 with top scorer of the day Ian Welch taking his tally into double figures. The Final was easily won with BeestonMK scoring 5 times with no reply against Sth Leics leaving their final figures as played 5, won 5, goals for 21, goals against 0. Therefore Beeston had retained the U13 title in style.

Meanwhile the U15s had been busy socialising and playing hockey!
Beeston U15DLB: Charlotte Goodman, Hannah Price, Sarah Brennan, Rachael Seagar, Michael Freeman, Adam Corbett, Tom Hubbard, Chris Powell and Matt Allcock. In the group matches BeestonDLB won 2, drew1 and lost 1, qualifying for the semi finals.
Beeston U15MP: Rebecca Morley, Victoria Broughton, Jenna Musson, Amy Skoyles, Matt Seal, Ryan Mason, Felix Evans, Alex Leeson Brown and Chris Price. In the group matches BeestonMP won all 3 of their matches, scoring 7 goals and conceding 0, qualifying for the semi finals.

The all Beeston semi final was a close fought affair with neither side giving way resulting in a goalless draw. The deadlock was finally broken by a golden goal from Mayo during the 5 minutes of extra time. The final brought together local rivals Beeston and North Notts for a highly competitive match in which a penalty stroke by Matt Seal was enough to give Beeston a narrow 1-0 victory. Therefore the U15 title was again Beeston’s, a title we have held since 1999!

The triple treble was complete and once more the Hinckley trophies were taken to be engraved with Beeston as the 2005 champions.

Team Beeston did not only consist of the above mentioned players but their coaches, Martin Keeling, Vic Gram-Hansen, Mike Price and Dave Lyneham Brown; umpires Pete Shuttleworth, Richard Padley, Les Morrice, Paul Willars and Martyn Seal; parents and siblings who provided such wonderful support and of course the kit manager yours truly who was grateful that there was no clash of colours and therefore only 48 shirts were used! Here’s to next year with no pressure on the teams to win all three titles for 4 years running!
