FUN FOR ALL AT U9 NATIONAL OLYMPIC FESTIVAL

This year Beeston entered two mixed teams in the U9 festival. The teams competed as countries and Beeston chose to be Pakistan and Holland. In total 12 teams entered the festival which was open only to Club 1st accredited clubs.

The teams were divided into 2 groups of 6 teams in the morning so there was plenty hockey played.

The Beeston/Pakistan team was managed by John Procter one of our U17s who was having his first taste of management! They beat France 1-0, drew with Portugal 1-1 and South Africa 1-1 and lost to Australia 0-1 and an all boys team from Bermuda 0-4. Their goals were scored by Henry Mac (2) and Gareth.

The Beeston/Holland team was managed by Martin Keeling. They beat Hawaii 1-0, Great Britain 2-0, and Canada 1-0 and drew with Japan 0-0 and New Zealand 0-0. Their goals were scored by Cellan, Omar, Edward and Yiannos.

In the afternoon the teams were graded into 4 groups of 3 teams depending on their results in the morning. Beeston/Pakistan were placed in the second group. They drew with Great Britain 0-0 and lost to Australia 0-3. Beeston/Holland were placed in the top group. They lost to Bermuda 0-2 and drew with New Zealand 1-1, Edward scored the goal.

All the Beeston kids played well and they also enjoyed activities in the craft tent and numerous goes on the bouncy castles and slides and met the England Hockey mascot, Jasper. Brooke and Rueben were playing in goal for the first time in matches and did very well. Maaz took a direct hit on his forehead and was very brave returning to play more hockey once he had been patched up!

After the games all the competitors gathered with their flags and banners and were presented with certificates by players from the U21 England Ladies team.
