Following our return to competing in the Midlands Indoor Championships last year when we entered a young U16 team we decided to enter both the U16 and U18 events. Beeston took advantage of the rule allowing guests by fielding Welsh schoolboy internationals in goal.
The U18s were a young team with no true u18s in their ranks but played very well considering we do no training for indoor hockey. In the first match they found themselves 0-3 down to an experienced public school team from Newcastle but fought back with goals from Will Torr(2) and Charlie Macildowie(1) to earn a 3-3 draw. Beeston then went on to earn a place in the semi finals by drawing 2-2 with Stourport HC with goals from Macildowie and John Procter. In the semis they lost 0-3 to a strong Cannock team who went on to beat Newcastle in the final. Beeston Squad: David Lewis, Will Torr, Oscar Evans, Matt Seal, Caleb Mierkalns, Charlie Macildowie and John Procter. Coach and Manager Martin Keeling.
The U16s were coached by former England Indoor international Kevin Collins and managed by Ian Ward. Beeston won their group with a close victory against Cannock 3-2 with Sam Ward scoring a hat trick and an easy 5-0 victory against Princethorpe School with two goals from Sam Dixon and another Sam Ward hat trick. Beeston won a place in the final and with it secured a place at the nationals with a 3-1 win against Stourport with goals from Sam Dixon (2) and Sam Ward (1). The boys relaxed in the final and although the two Sams were on target again this time Ward (2) and Dixon (1) Beeston lost 3-6 to Newcastle School.
